Who We Are?
Professional Bookkeeping Services go back to the days when accounts were prepared manually, when entries were recorded onto large heavy ledgers and the final accounts were summarised on a manual extended trial balance.
You needed a whole filing cabinet to store all the many books and ledgers. I was one of the very first to use computers when Alan Sugar introduced the Amstrad personal computers, then went about selecting a suitable accounting software.
In those days Pegassus was the leading brand, I received samples from the few players at the time and chose Sage as being the most suitable. Sage went onto to become the largest accounting software company in the UK. In the early days the majority of accountants and the authorities like HM Customs & Excise, as they were called then, had no knowledge of computerised accounts and during my many meetings over the years with HM customs & Excise during VAT visits and with accountants, had to explain the cross over from manual to computerised.
Finding new clients has always been easier than finding suitable employees. It is as difficult today as it was then.
To find someone who is meticulous, pays attention to details, has a liking to figures and is good at it as well as general common sense is not so easy to find.
Today we are still using Sage and the different versions of sage for our bookkeeping and accounting preparation. Professional Bookkeeping Services usually work on the clients premises. Our average client ranges from 2 days a month to 8 days a month. Our typical client is 1 day per week. Their turnover is between £300, 000 to £2 million.
During our visits we will carry out all the bookkeeping and management accounting work that is required, please see our checklist of tasks carried out. Professional Bookkeeping Services work closely with your accountants/tax advisers at the year end and hand over to them a good set of accounts with all the necessary prepayments, accruals, adj, etc.
With some of our clients, and some go back many years, one such client we serviced for over 10 years until the director resigned and subsequently closed the company, we have our own station at their office with our own desk, telephone, computer, set of trays for purchase, sales invoices, bank statements, etc. ready for us to insert on to sage.
Professional Bookkeeping Services work very close with you and all staff have a checklist specific to the job of all functions to perform each month. We often get involved in chasing debtors and contacting suppliers for any discrepancies or copy invoices required.
We often produce management accounts monthly and sometimes quarterly and discuss the results with the director. These have always been invaluable and appreciated to the client. Management accounts are most important, they are live information and assist the business in many aspects.
The accounts that are prepared at the end of the year are historic, they are usually completed 6 months after the year end, so serve no purpose to the director other than for compliance and to state how much tax is due for payment. Professional Bookkeeping Services will quote a fee to you from the outset, so you know upfront what the cost will be for all your bookkeeping and accounting requirements
